A robot vacuum can keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency at which you need to manually vacuum. Choose one that has an easy navigation, can sweep corners and stairs and also has a large dust bin that needs emptying only periodically.
There are models that can mop and charge on their own, a feature that may be beneficial for those with children or pets. The top performers in our tests have decent obstacle avoidance.
1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is an excellent alternative for those who want a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot when it is full.
Both robots excel at cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors, and they are very good in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we evaluated the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may get stuck on things such as power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like hardwood to rug.
iRobot suggests that you clean up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other items it may encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clear so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its dirt into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes about three hours to recharge.
2. Roomba from iRobot
The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line, and it comes with the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most important feature is the self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance.
The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot via the app or by voice.
In our tests the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces recurring costs.
We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to begin or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and easy with the iRobot Home app. Once connected, we were able to give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car that is amidst a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for the majority of households, but it also fits in well next to the table for a coffee or a bookshelf where you can move it around like the magic wand.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system traps allergens, then lets cleaner air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It quickly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back.
This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments as well as the wand clip. This is a big improvement over earlier Dysons, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.
The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. Its marketing claims that it can provide up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical not an extraordinary time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. This is enough time to vacuum the average-sized home however, it's not enough time to reach every area. (A second pass is usually sufficient). That's not to say this model isn't a good choice It's lighter and more mobile than the older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694"
One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent choice for people who don't wish to spend too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up most types of debris and sizes during our tests, and often goes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front side helps to get into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice addition.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models like our top choices, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It may get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and often runs out of power before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects because it has fewer parts that require regular maintenance and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.
The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels better-built and has a more powerful motor, and is able to perform better on floors that are bare and low-pile carpet, while offering a wider range of automation options.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a brand is found on all kinds of electronic gadgets for your home It's no surprise that they're also one of the most reputable robotic vacuum and mop makers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence tech for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app gives you plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization docking frequency settings and much more. It's easy to understand and is user-friendly, which is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding taller objects like cords and socks, which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than some of the other models we've tested and could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.
